State EHDI Coordinator/Grantee Meeting
March 7, 2012
8:00am-3:00pm
Each state is expected to develop a comprehensive system for newborn hearing screening, diagnosis, and services for children with hearing loss. To do that requires a clear understanding of goals, knowledge of effective practices, and coordination among various stakeholders.
As Early Hearing Detections and Intervention (EHDI) programs continue to evolve and improve, it is important for EHDI coordinators to review and discuss the goals for state EHDI programs and to discuss effective practices with other EHDI program coordinators. The purpose of the meeting, which takes place on the Wednesday following the National EHDI Meeting, is to provide an opportunity for state EHDI coordinators to share information about successes and challenges and to discuss how to improve EHDI programs. The state EHDI coordinator (or designee) for every state or territory is expected to attend.
As a result of this meeting participants will be able to:
- Describe effective practices of a comprehensive state EHDI program.
- Identify significant challenges they are likely to encounter in operating an effective EHDI program and describe various strategies for dealing with those challenges.
- Understand how to successfully manage grants and cooperative agreements that provide support for EHDI programs.
- Identify strategies and resources that can be used to improve their state EHDI program.
