Parent Report of Amplification Use of Children with Hearing Loss Only and Those with Multiple Diagnoses

This project is a descriptive analysis which compares parent reports of amplification use amongst children who have a sole diagnosis of hearing loss with those who have multiple diagnoses (Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Plus). Other factors that will be described include laterality, type, and degree of hearing loss, type of amplification used (hearing aid or cochlear implant), mother’s level of education, race/ethnicity, and primary language used in the home. This information comes from data gathered in the National Early Childhood Assessment Project (NECAP) that includes over 1,200 children in 12 different states. Recommendations may include the development of specific interventions for amplification use in the pediatric D/HH Plus population and the provision of additional audiological services to families of children who are D/HH Plus.

  • Describe parent reports of amplification use for children with hearing loss only versus those with multiple diagnoses
  • Describe other factors among these children such as laterality, type, and degree of hearing loss, mother's level of education, race/ethnicity, etc.
  • Make recommendations for audiological service in the pediatric D/HH Plus population- such as the development of specific interventions for amplification use
