All In! Invest, Interact, Influence

What is our number one priority, as a parent, caregiver or professional, for a child who is deaf or hard of hearing- to ensure their success beginning at a very early age. This is true for all children, this is true for ALL children who are deaf or hard of hearing; ensuring access to language, fluency, support, peers, learning, mentors, and so on. We talk a lot about the importance and value of family engagement- in our own child’s journey, with the professionals we work with, with our communities, and with "the system”. Engagement, collaboration, partnership, involvement-these are really powerful words, so what do they mean and how do we ensure that they are happening and happening in a forward moving, healthy, positive manner? It’s about understanding our motives and building authentic relationships. It is said in adult learning that we can take in up to five pieces of novel information at a time; this presentation is going to address three (with a fourth thrown in because we are all so advanced!), ideas regarding our personal and communal engagement and collaboration. We will further explore how we invest in, interact with and positively influence each other and the systems we work and live in, throwing in some inspiration, while we’re at it. It is time for us to be All In.

  • Explore how to invest in building trusting relationships between families and professionals.
  • Explore how to ensure relevant engagement, considering the complexity of our systems.
  • Explore how to harness the power of partnership to positively affect each other and the system in an effort to improve the success of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
