Making the Switch: Improving Diagnostic Reporting to EHDI by Audiologists
During this session, Ohio’s EHDI staff will share the steps, timeframes and processes used to move toward successful implementation of the transition from all paper reporting to all electronic reporting in less than a twelve-month timeframe for over 200 audiologists. The discussion will begin with strategies how to pilot the selected reporting tool, identifying early adopters to test the new approach and spreading electronic reporting through the use of quality improvement initiatives. Approaches to foster stakeholder buy –in will also be discussed through the various stages of implementation.
Standardizing audiological hearing evaluation reporting has allowed more information to be included in each diagnostic report. Through electronic reporting, Ohio has gained the ability to review more diagnostic data, monitor and reduce submission dates, reduce referral timelines to Part-C and most importantly, reduce lost to follow up to diagnosis rates.
This session will outline the multilayered approach used with Audiologist to improve program goals and data quality. Examples of materials created will be provided along with data from various measures. This session will assist other states in developing a coordinated Audiology monitoring and training package using QI methodology and strategies to reduce lost to follow up.

Allyson Van Horn, MPH, MEd is the State of Ohio Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Coordinator and manages the Infant Hearing Program, Children’s Hearing Program, Children’s Vision Program and the Save Our Sight Program. Allyson has over 10 years’ experience with statewide programs that focus on early detection, diagnosis and treatment of children with hearing and vision problems. She has given many presentations on the importance of evidenced-based screening practices in the primary care, childcare and school settings. Allyson also participates on various statewide initiatives to improve hearing and vision screening, diagnostic and treatment rates.
