Building a Caregivers World

The word Caregiver is so broad that often times it can make it difficult for a caregiver to find high value in what they do. This word can also cause others to focus so much on their caregiving tasks that they self-isolate. Regardless of which end of the spectrum a caregiver finds themselves there is the issue of lack of a support system and lack of self care. There have been many studies of family make ups and programs have been created that are supposed to fill these needs, but the reality is these programs hardly scratch the surface of what is needed for caregivers to receive the support that they need and care for themselves in such a way that it creates a health environment for all involved. This issue gets even more complex when you start talking about the diversity of families/needs and multi-general households and caregiving. In my experience as a caregiver and assisting others with resources I have found that most caregivers are not even aware of the help that they themselves need in order to care for those they are attending to in a healthy way. You have to start with being able to identify the tough parts of caregiving and the beautiful parts of it. You then need to know how to find your village, who is in your corner? Then you need to make time to figure out what fills you as a caregiver up and plan these things each day and make the time to do them.

  • The participant will be able to identify both the difficulties and benefits of being a caregiver
  • The Participant will be able to identify and access resources and supports
  • The Participant will be able to identify ways to provide themself selfcare in order to care for others.
