Bridging the Gap: Improving Access to Hearing Services for Michigan Medicaid and Children's Special Health Care Services Beneficiaries

Access to essential healthcare services is important, yet for children and families on Michigan Medicaid and Children’s Special Health Care Services, obtaining hearing services, including hearing aids, has been a challenging journey. The EHDI program embarked on a multi-year collaborative effort with Michigan Medicaid. The goal was to enhance access to hearing services for those in need. EHDI will share the strategies used such as conducting extensive surveys to understand the challenges faced by providers, revising policy, analyzing reimbursement policies, and communicating with the providers.

  • To gain insight into collaborative efforts between the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program and Medicaid in Michigan.
  • To explore key strategies in updating the Hearing Services Chapter, reimbursement rates, and enhancing the Medicaid system.
  • To learn successful initiatives aimed at increasing the number of healthcare providers who accept Medicaid for hearing services.
