Changes in the Wind: Applications of the EHDI Act of 2017
With brand-new state program funding soon to start, this presentation will discuss the key changes between the 2010 EHDI Act and the 2017 EHDI Act. EHDI state coordinators, family leaders, and community advocates will appreciate this clear and visual walk-through of the new requirements as applied to the state program funding. In addition, new/revised objectives of the funding have resulted in an increased number of collaborative projects ranging from creating family-friendly websites to establishing Deaf mentor programs. Examples will be provided with comprehensive resources so states can replicate other states' success within their funding formula and community stakeholders.
- Participants will become able to restate the changes between the old EHDI Act and the new EHDI Act.
- Participants will develop a list of creative projects that will satisfy their state program funding objectives.
- Participants will be able to identify the relationship between the changes in the federal law and state program funding objectives.

Tawny Holmes Hlibok serves as Language Policy Counsel at Gallaudet University along with being an Associate Professor in the Department of Deaf Studies. She graduated from University of Baltimore School of Law. In addition to her law degree with a family mediation & law certification, she has a Master of Arts in Family Centered Early Education. Ms. Holmes Hlibok has worked four years in teaching deaf and hard of hearing students, mainly in the early childhood education field. As part of her position, she focuses on improving/establishing federal and state policy related to early intervention and education of deaf and hard of hearing children. Ms. Holmes Hlibok strongly believes in the power of collaboration and has contributed a significant amount of her work towards this endeavor, in varying ways, from promoting parent resources to inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing adult professionals.

Claudia Giordano, a Biracial Deaf Woman with five years of Early Intervention, Deaf Education and Language Advocate; she studied Masters in Early Language Advocacy. She grew up in a hearing family and had the privilege of communication access at home. She wants to ensure that all Deaf and Hard of Hearing children have that privilege as well.
