"Policy, Advocacy, and Legislation related to Congenital Cytomegalovirus"
Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) is the most common viral cause of birth defects, and the leading, non-genetic, cause of childhood hearing loss. This presentation will discuss current CMV screening laws, and give ideas for success in the legislative process. The presenter will give an update on the Recommended Uniform Screening panel application. The presenter will also discuss policies regarding appropriate referrals upon a cCMV diagnosis.
- Participant will be able to describe current status of RUSP nomination for cCMV.
- Particpant will be able to describe CMV laws in the US.
- Participant will be able to describe appropriate referrals for children born with cCMV

Amanda graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2007. She has worked in public health for 14 years, most recently focusing on maternal child health. Currently, she works as the Program Director for the National CMV Foundation. Amanda became passionate about eliminating congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) when her daughter was born affected by the virus in 2015. Amanda serves on the Congenital and Inherited Disorders Advisory Committee for the state of Iowa and is the Co-President of Iowa Hands&Voices.
