Increasing Parent Engagement in Early Intervention to Impact EHDI 1-3-6 Enrollment Goals

The impact of parent engagement on children's outcomes in education is well researched and published, but how can parent engagement impact enrollment statistics in early intervention programs? The State of Michigan EHDI Program partnered with Michigan Hands & Voices under the HRSA grant to creatively address improving performance statewide with the National EHDI 1-3-6 Goals. Collaboratively, they developed the Michigan Hands & Voices 1-3-6 program. A previous EHDI meeting session focused on the 1 and 3 month goals. This session relates to the 6 month early intervention enrollment goal throughout the state. The parent serves many roles within this program including (but not limited to): 1. Serving on committees 2. Telling a connect to purpose story to remind professionals of the impact they can and do have with the families they serve 3. Contributing to the conversations happening all over the state regarding enrollment rates The program aims to move quality outcomes in the state by integrating parent perspectives into policy and program changes, networking with educators to identify program resources, and connecting to the purpose that drives the entire team - giving each child excellent care and the resources they need to thrive. We will discuss: 1. The roll out of our program 2. Integrating parents into interagency coordinating councils and Great Start Collaborative. 3. Challenges and changes to the program 4. The future of the program
