Title: 'Improving Efficiency in Pediatric Audiological Assessments' Track: 2 - Audiological Services Keyword(s): communication, teamwork, environment, protocols, performance appraisals Learning Objectives: Describe methods for improving communication with parents, referral sources, and other stakeholders in audiological assessments. List client friendly environmental considerations for audiological assessments. Describe development of a manual of operating procedures for an audiology practice. Abstract: Efficiency in a busy audiology practice requires a detailed manual of operating procedures that is followed by all practitioners and staff members. This presentation will address components to include: 1)providing meaningful communication regarding all stages of audiological assessment,2) enlisting a capable and accommodating staff, 3)creating a safe and client friendly environment, 4)establishing diagnostic protocols that adhere to published guidelines, and 5) conducting evaluation of practitioner performance and consumer satisfaction. Additionally, 6)billing, 7)marketing, and 8) components of team building will be discussed. McCollister, EdD, CCC-A, has authored articles on hearing loss associated with congenital cytomegalovirus, low birth weight, unilateral hearing loss, and Downs Syndrome. She is Professor Emeritus at the University of Alabama. She is an audiology consultant for the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management Technical Assistance Network and for the UAB collaborative studies regarding congenital CMV and hearing loss. Dr. McCollister has extensive pediatric audiology experience and experience in early intervention with families and their infants and young children with hearing loss.       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - No relevant financial relationship exist. Diane Sabo - Co-Presenter NCHAM      Credentials: Ph.D.,CCC-A.      Other Affiliations: University of Pittsburgh       Dr. Sabo is Associate Professor, Department of Communication Science and Disorders, University of Pittsburgh. She has over 25 years of clinical experience with infants and children, particularly in the area of electrophysiologic evaluation of the auditory system. She serves on the NCHAM Technical Assistance Network, assisting states in Region 3 and co-authored the Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum (a competency-based training DVD for hospital Screeners) with NCHAM colleagues. Dr. Sabo has been actively involved in research for numerous years and has collaborated on numerous NIH grants involved in the study of otitis media and most recently, cytomegalovirus. Dr. Sabo is also actively involved in student training serving as core faculty for the University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) training grant from Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - No relevant financial relationship exist.
