Abstract:

Families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing are often isolated from the interventions services they need, either because of location, or lack of information or resources. Early intervention professionals often struggle to find the appropriate resources for their programs and the families they serve. This presentation will introduce participants to new online resources designed to support early intervention professionals and provide resources that can be shared with parents and caregivers. The Clerc Center has developed two free new online resources for early intervention service providers and the families they serve. The Early Intervention Network showcases five factors of early intervention programs that enhance language acquisition for deaf or hard of hearing children. It provides program components, supporting evidence and a discussion forum for practitioners. Early Intervention for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children is a seven module web product that was developed in collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital. These modules will guide families through the early intervention process through short videos supplemented with additional information and resources. Participants will leave the presentation familiar with these resources and how to use them to support families with deaf and hard of hearing children.
