Abstract: |
This presentation will reflect on a parent's journey becoming an advocate for her child who is hard of hearing. Beginning with the earliest stage of advocacy being completely parent driven, through the many transitions, with the end result of being completely child driven. Several different stages will be identified and strategies to move through the stages will be discussed. Characteristics of empowered parents and empowered children will be examined and participants will leave with an understanding of how the parents roots lead to the child's wings. |
