Abstract:

Successfully completing hearing evaluations on infants requires knowledge, skills, experience and patience. This session will provide audiologists with some useful techniques for determining auditory sensitivity for infants even though testing conditions are often not optimal. Case studies will be used to highlight areas of variability often faced by clinicians. Problem-solving techniques for common obstacles to testing will be discussed. Participation and suggestions from other audiologists will be encouraged.

Brandt Culpepper - Northside Hospital
     Credentials: ASHA-CCC-A; AAA- FAAA; Ph.D.
      Brandt Culpepper is a pediatric audiologist at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She is working with the EHDI-PALs group to develop a national directory of pediatric audiology services. She is also serving on ASHA's Evidence-Based Systematic Review Committee on Hearing Screening. Northside Hospital has the nation's highest annual birth rate and serves as a regional referral source for infant hearing screening and assessment.
Colleen Benson - Northside Hospital
     Credentials: Au.D., CCC-A, FAAA
      Colleen Benson joined Northside Hospital's Audiology Department last year after completing her Au.D. from the Audiology Joint Doctoral Program at San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego. She is currently meeting the audiologic needs of infants and young children referred from the newborn hearing screening program at Northside.
Carol Ann Johnson - Northside Hospital
     Credentials: Au.D., FAAA
      Carol Ann Johnson works at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She joined the Audiology team at Northside last year after gleaning a wide range of professional experience in over 20 years of practice in a variety of settings. She is currently meeting the diagnostic needs of infants and young children.
