Abstract: |
Literacy can be a challenging component for children who are deaf/hard of hearing. There are a variety of strategies we can use with young children regardless of the type of communication chosen by the family to help them develop the literacy skills they need for the future. However, based on the communication decisions of the family, there are certain auditory and visual considerations for applying the literacy strategies in order to maximize the child’s learning. By looking at these strategies from both an auditory and visual standpoint, it allows the service provider to easily model and support the families as they incorporate literacy into their daily routines. This session will take just a few of the strategies that are important for helping children develop literacy skills and highlight through video clips how these strategies could be incorporated in both an auditory and a visual environment. |
