Abstract: |
In light of our current economic struggles, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that Part C programs are collaborating and interfacing with other organizations in order to ensure sustainability and growth as anticipated by earlier identification of deaf and hard of hearing children. State agencies with relatively financial stability and common goals and interests, such as the Departments of Education, are uniquely able provide a solid foundation of support, sustainability and growth opportunities to Part C programming. In this session, participants will learn about the activities of Wisconsin and Indiana’s Outreach that interface with and support each state’s early intervention initiatives. Presenters will share their involvement with Indiana’s and Wisconsin’s Part C programs in setting the direction of and outreach services to young children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind (and their families), unique statewide initiatives that support their state’s EHDI program, and collaborative funding opportunities that ensure sustainability and even growth for Part C and Part B programming in each state. |

Marcy holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in Early Childhood/Special Education and a Master’s degree in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. She founded and worked as Program Director in a speciality Birth to 3 Program serving children with hearing loss for many years. In adition, she has worked as a classroom and itinerant teacher and has taught university courses, workshops and intensive trainings, with a focus on the needs of young deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind children and their families.
In her current position, Marcy has been involved in the development of a variety of innovative services and supports in collaboration with Wisconsin's EHDI program (Wisconsin Sound Beginnings), in addition to spearheading the process of redesigning Wisconsin's Birth to 6 services to children with hearing loss and their families. |

Cindy began her career first working for an otologist, then in the Indianapolis Public School where she served as an itinerant teacher and Educational Audiologist. She currently serves as Director of the Outreach Department. She works closely with the Department of Education, local Directors of Special Educaiton, First Steps, and other agencies providing services for deaf and hard of hearing children as well as administrating the department. As a licensed educational audiologist at ISD since 1986, she has served as the preschool and elementary school audiologist, Director of Assessment Services and now as the Director of Outreach. Outreach services are statewide and serve children and families from birth through 21 years of age. |
