EHDI and Dried Bloodspot: We are all Newborn Screening!
In many states, the newborn hearing screening and dried bloodspot (DBS) screening programs are not located together. In Arizona, newborn screening follow up is one team for hearing and DBS. This session will help unlock the mysteries of dried bloodspot follow up and share ways to collaborate to meet the 1-3-6 goals of EHDI. In Arizona, the hearing screening and bloodspot screening have always worked hand in hand together. This session will demonstrate all the ways collaboration helps with locating babies needing follow up services, providing notifications to providers and sharing valuable data system resources.

Fran is the Case Management Coordinator at the Arizona Department of Health Services, Office of Newborn Screening. She provides administrative oversight to the follow up team for hearing (EHDI), dried bloodspot and long term follow up. Prior to becoming the Coordinator in November 2014, Fran spent the prior 2 1/2 years as the High Risk Coordinator/Project Specialist for hearing follow up. Fran has a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Before joining the Newborn Screening Program nearly 12 years ago, Fran spent 18 years as a social worker in the early intervention (Part C) field.
