Qualities and characteristics of a successful mentor program for teens with hearing loss
Currently, there are not established and constructive mentor programs for teenagers with disabilities, specifically hearing loss, in the Denver community. The goal of this project is to determine the qualities found within a good mentor, successful mentor training programs, and currently available mentor programs for teenagers with disabilities. Previous researched has determined specific qualities that are possessed by a successful mentor and mentor program. This research will be analyzed and used to complete a guide for creating a mentor program for teenagers with, disabilities, specifically hearing loss.
- Determine what mentorship programs are available for teenagers with hearing loss.
- Determine which qualities and characteristic previous research has found makes a good mentor and mentor training.
- Determine what previous research has found are necessary elements for a successful mentor program for teenagers.

Sandra Gabbard is an Associate Professor of Audiology at the University of Colorado where she is the Coordinator of the Pediatric Audiology LEND MCHB training grant, which supports AuD students and post-doctoral audiologists to expand their expertise in pediatric audiology. In addition, Sandra is the CEO/President and audiologist at the Marion Downs Center, a non-profit community clinic which provides services in audiology, speech therapy, and more.
