Outcome Measures and You! How Your Data Can Assist in Planning a Program.
The Pediatric Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (PEHDI) program at Child’s Voice was created to address the needs of the community by establishing a suburban site to perform diagnostic Auditory Brainstem Response testing following referral on NBHS. During the first three years of the program data was gathered in order to track and evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of the program with regards to meeting the needs of the community, reducing loss to follow-up and complying with JCIH 1.3.6 recommendations. The data gathered has assisted in making adjustments to outreach, scheduling and protocols utilized. Interesting and pertinent statistics will be shared regarding loss to follow-up, compliance with JCIH recommendations, patient demographics, diagnosis rate and enrollment in EI. This presentation will outline the successes in our PEHDI program as well as areas targeted for growth.

Dr. Dawn Violetto is Director of Audiology at Child's Voice, the premier listening and spoken language school in Northern Illinois and has over 27 years of experience in pediatric audiology. At Child's Voice, Dr. Dawn serves the children and families by performing many functions as both an educational and diagnostic audiologist and also serves as a preceptor for doctoral students. Dawn received her B.A. and M.A in Audiology from Northern Illinois University and her Doctorate in Audiology from Arizona school of Health Sciences at A. T. Still University. Dawn has served on the Illinois New Born Hearing Advisory Committee, the Illinois New Born Hearing Collaborative and was involved in introducing the ECHO program in the state. She currently serves on the Illinois JCIH workgroup and the Illinois state SIAC Health Subcommitte Hearing Ad Hoc work group. Dr. Dawn is an adjunct professor at Midwestern and Rush University.

Megan Wernsman

Dr. Megan Wernsman has been a pediatric audiologist at Child’s Voice for 3 years. She serves the pediatric population both as a diagnostic and an educational audiologist. She first began her career in Deaf Education with a focus on listening and spoken language and taught at Desert Voices in Phoenix, Arizona. After teaching for 4 years, Dr. Wernsman returned to graduate school at Arizona School of Health Sciences at A. T. Still University to obtain her Doctorate in Audiology, with the intent on serving children with hearing loss and their families while going through the diagnostic and intervention process. Since graduating Dr. Wernsman has specialized in diagnosing and treating pediatrics with hearing loss as a part of the Pediatric Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (PEHDI), Early Intervention, and School programs at Child’s Voice.
