Promoting Social-Emotional Development in Young Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

This workshop will bring together evidence-informed strategies for promoting social-emotional development alongside clinical expertise in working with families to grow the social-emotional development abilities of young children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). It will be presented by two professionals who are passionate about this topic - a psychologist and an SLP who is provides early intervention. The workshop will guide participants in considering the role of social-emotional development in the child's overall functioning. It will introduce and distribute resources that can be used by families and professionals alike to boost the social-emotional abilities of young children who are DHH.

  • Identify 2 strategies to approach the topic of social-emotional development in the context of early intervention (with parents if you are a professional, or as a concerned parent to a professional)
  • Generate a list of 3 or more ways that activities to bolster social-emotional development could be integrated into early intervention
  • Make a plan to implement at least one social-emotional goal that can be applied in-real-life with your child or a child you support
