Abstract:

Families face a variety of challenges in making decisions related to raising a child who is deaf or hard of hearing. One of these challenges is the transition process from early intervention to preschool services. During this time, there is much to learn and navigate, including determining appropriate services and what to look for in preschool programs. This session will provide families guidance on what qualities to look for in preschool programs, what to keep in mind related to the individual language and communication needs of their child, and what tools and resources are available for families in this process.Family reflections on what makes a successful transition will also be shared.
