Trauma Informed Care: The Missing Piece
Trauma-Informed Care offers a service delivery model that promotes a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing. It is imperative as EHDI providers that we keep the pervasiveness of trauma in the forefront of our minds when interacting with children, families, and each other. Trauma-responsive providers have an opportunity to connect with their patients/clients and family members through the lens of co-regulation and gain more self-awareness regarding their own reactions and boundaries in times of stress or trauma.
- Participants will gain an understanding of the neurobiological effects of toxic stress and trauma, including the impacts on brain development.
- Participants will be able to be able better identify signs of dysregulation from children and their family members.
- Participants will learn about co-regulation and its role and application during clinic or home visits.

Allison is a pediatric audiologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. Shaped by her own experiences growing up hard of hearing, Allison has a special interest in self advocacy and resiliency of children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Her volunteer role as a Court Appointed Special Advocate has changed her perspective in how families are informed and supported throughout their journey.
